Emotions poured out. The use of epoxy resin in art
The resin has always fascinated. To start with children who love to squeeze their little fingers into shiny drops on a tree that is seductive with scent and color. The same – adults, who with persistence worthy of a better cause are still looking for the resin fossilized for centuries in seaside resorts, thrown by the waters of the Baltic Sea. What attracts them so much? Various colors, play of light and fascination with the uniqueness of each item. This is the mystery of the world embedded in resin stone. It is no different with epoxy resin. This material gained popularity mainly in construction. It entered buildings thanks to its use for pouring durable, industrial and non-slip floors. Recently, it has also entered salons, or rather its walls, and the studios of designers and painters. See what the phenomenon of resin works is and why it is worth decorating your home with it.
Advantages of the resin
Epoxy resin is a synthetic friend of the natural resin, which contains a variety of difficult-sounding chemicals. Organoleptically, it can be stated that it is a sticky liquid, and when hardened, it becomes practically indestructible. Durability is one of the undoubted advantages of working with epoxy resin. In addition to resistance to damage, it is worth noting that the effect is equally important for the artist and the recipient. The possibility of obtaining beautiful patterns, after combining with dyes, is something that seduced a large number of artists with this material. The eventual unpredictability of the final result of mixing and setting is also the element that adds value to the work. Many amateurs of resin works emphasize that they are captivated by their characteristic shine, which naturally forms after it dries. At this point, it should also be honestly stated that epoxy is obviously a chemical substance, so care and prudence are welcome here, especially when working. But after hardening, the resin is completely safe and even suitable for contact with food.
How it’s made?
Painting pictures with dyed resin is a process that is as pleasant as it is surprising. One of the Artists of Art for People, Renata Stróżyńska describes her creative process as follows: “Two years ago I discovered an extraordinary medium – resin. Its uniqueness lies in the complete lack of control over what will happen. You can plan the colors, but external factors – temperature, air humidity – make the resin spread unpredictably. Nobody, not even I, can create another picture of the same. It’s fascinating but frustrating at the same time because you can’t fix what’s wrong.” The resin is colorless and takes on the color of the dye we mix with it. Depending on the proportions used, the effect will be different. The technique of painting with such a preparation differs significantly from traditional painting with the use of paints, a brush and a canvas situated on an easel. Here, one should remember about the properties of the resin, which naturally drains, which means that the canvas or the base should be placed horizontally, e.g. on a table, and the liquid should be poured from the top so that it drips freely, in its own rhythm. Some waterproof resin enthusiasts use tools to guide the extremely liberated material in the direction they want. It is also an excellent substance for making sculptures, jewelry, as well as furniture and decorative objects. Lamps are a great example here, the light of which shows spectacularly the depth of the pigment added to the resin shade of the shade. Especially when it has the color of gold or silver flakes. The interior, which will be decorated with works of resin, will gain uniqueness, because no two works are identical. This type of creativity is also universal enough to match its character to any interior and reach any recipient.
